Liceo U Participates in Symposium Workshop on
Developing S & T Innovation Hubs and Cluster in Mindanao

   Researchers from Liceo de Cagayan University, led by Dr. Lesley Casas Lubos, VPRPE, participated in the Symposium Workshop on Developing S & T Innovation Hubs and Cluster in Mindanao last May 22-23, 2017 at N Hotel, Cagayan de Oro City. The symposium was conducted by the National Academy of Science and Technology (NAST) in partnership with DOST Region X.

 

   Mayor Oscar Moreno of Cagayan de Oro City welcomed the participants. The two-day event was graced by National Scientist Dr. Lourdes J. Cruz who is also the Project Leader of Partnerships in STI (Science and Technology Innovation), NAST Academicians Dr. Guillermo Q. Tabios (Hydrology Expert) and Dr. Marco Nemesio E. Montaño (Seaweed Expert) who served as resource persons and facilitators during the writeshop. Fr. Alberto Alejo from Ateneo de Manila University discussed the role of communities and indigenous peoples of Mindanao in development. The heads of various government and private agencies, representatives from private and public HEIs, and from the indigenous peoples (IPs) of Mindanao were also present. Also in attendance were the DOST Regional Directors from Region X, XI, and Caraga.

 

   The objective of the activity was to generate transdisciplinary research proposals involving the government, academe, industry, and civil societies for the establishment of STI hubs and clusters in Mindanao’s development corridors. The participants from Liceo were Dr. Felsa A. Labis, CBA Dean and concurrent LCCD Director, Ms. Maria Elena C. Reyes, RPO Assoc. Director, Ms. Prenelei P. Vasquez, Asst. LCCD Director, Mr. Jun Brian P. Tubongbanua, CIT Research and Extension Coordinator, and Mr. Salm Kairo C. Dumanlag, LCCD Community Organizer.
