Liceo U wins 3rd Place in National Health Research Contest

Ms. Angeline D. Beltran of the College of Nursing, Liceo de Cagayan University won 3rd Place in the 10th Philippine National Health Research System Contest held at Crystate Asturias Hotel, Puerto Princesa City, Palawan on August 9-12, 2016 for the Health Research Poster (Student Category). Ms. Beltran, together with Dr. Lesley Casas Lubos, Vice President for Research, Publication, and Extension and also the research adviser and coach, represented Region 10 in the said contest. As the Study Leader of her research group, Ms. Beltran presented their study on “The Effect of Iodized and Sea Salt Used as Control Agents for Mosquito Larvae in the Top Four Barangays in Cagayan de Oro City with Highest Dengue Incidence.” The study was a timely health research innovation specially now with the rising cases of dengue fever in the region.

According to Ms. Beltran, although the competition was very tough since she was competing with the best researchers in the student category from all over the country, she was able to breeze through the competition and answered all the nerve-wracking questions of the judges with confidence. She said that she did her best since she was not only representing Liceo de Cagayan University, but Region 10 as a whole. She hopes that her achievement would serve as an inspiration to her fellow Liceans that they will also do their best in their research undertakings. She is also grateful for the full support given by their research adviser Dr. Lubos, the Dean of the College of Nursing, Dr. Judith Dalman, and the Liceo community. Her feat in the National Health Research Contest shows that the University has indeed imbibed among the research students and advisers the culture of research excellence.
