LIMCEBCON and Liceo Green Advocates Movement on Citizen Science Training

By: Leilani G. Pimentel

On June 14 and 16, 2016, Liceo U student leaders went through a Citizen Science for Climate Change Student Trainers’ Training conducted by the Office of the Vice President for Research, Publication, and Extension at NAC 203, Main Campus. Participants received first-hand training from Ms. Marifi A. Geolina (Campus Ministry Coordinator), Mr. Edzen A. Espina (VP-SPS), Dr. Felsa A. Labis (LCCD Director), and Dr. Lesley C. Lubos (VP-RPE). The training was designed to inform and equip student leader volunteers as partners with the University, through the Liceo Mindanao Center for Biodiversity and Conservation (LIMCEBCON) and the Liceo Green Advocates Movement (LGAM), on programs that address environmental issues such as climate change.

LIMCEBCON, which was formed in 2011, is a specialized research center of the University that aims to design and implement various environmental and conservation programs and projects. This mission is likewise supported by LGAM, an organization founded in 2009 by Dr. Lubos and Liceo environmental advocates composed of faculty and student volunteers for environmental conservation and species protection. LGAM’s current adviser is Dr. Felsa S. Labis.

The training was also conducted in cooperation with the Offices of the Vice President for Academic Affairs and Vice President for Student Personnel Services.
